My experience writing the blogs was really fun! before making this blog I wrote a lot about of my life, things that I thought that I liked, similar to this activity (in Spanish) but everything was in an anonymous way, I don’t know what happened with the forum that I used to use, but that’s other story. Writing the blogs was very helpful to me, because writing in English is very difficult for me, I always repeat words, and my vocabulary is very poor, and also in my school I only learned verbs and some rules of English, I think that this is the reason that the communication and writing is not my strong in English but with blogs my grammar problems were less usual, and in general I think that the course is organized in a correct form, because we are few students and it makes the class more personalized.
Blogs that I most liked to write were “Videogames” and “Music” this both topics are part of my favourite hobbies maybe that is why these ones were easy to post for me and, about a blog that I would like to write is maybe about My favourite series or TV shows, pets or sports (the Olympic Games makes me have passion for sports).

Travels

A travel that I enjoyed a lot was in this year for being specific at January I went to La Serena, I never travelled to the north of our country, only to the south, so many years ago my mother tried to motivate me  because I don’t like so much stay away from my home. I went to La Serena by bus, it was really exhausting! And boring (just the bus part), when I arrived to La Serena I did many things and went to so divers places, my mom and I decided to take a tour, I can’t remember right now all the places but just to mention a few: “the Elqui valley, Islas Damas, Vicuña” and finally we went to “La Herradura”, sadly people told me that before the north earthquake La Herradura was more pretty than now, but I liked the beach anyway because the waves were so peaceful and quiet.

The only deception for me, was that I couldn’t went to the observatories and from the beginning it was one of my purposes in this travel to visit one, but maybe in the future I could have the possibility to visit the two great observatories in the north of our country.

My career is amazing, every day I feel that I have chosen the correct option, my classes in general are really productive and fun! Obviously some classes are boring for me but nobody can love every class. Trying to make a flashback I remember that my best moment in a class was at the lab! The subject is called “Chemistry lab techniques” is like an introduction about our labour at the lab and for me is really fun. This class mix the theory and practical ways to teach, so is perfect for me, it’s where I can see the best things of my career, and I have to say that my teachers are really helpful to me. In this class I don’t have only one teacher, I have 4! Obviously I have my preferences but all of them are amazing.  At the start I thought that this subject will be so relaxed but I noticed that is one of the most complicated to pass, I don’t have bad marks in general (only one but I can do the practical again, yes!) for me is like a challenge, the most unexpected things for me, make me have more motivation J.

Rosalind Franklin

Rosalind Elsie Franklin (notting Hill, 25th july 1920 - Chelsea, 16th april 1958), was an England chemist and X-ray crystallographer.

Her story is fascinating, when Franklin was young she went to one of Einstein’s conferences and she knew that science was the purpose of her entire life, Franklin went to Cambridge University to get the Chemist grade although the problems with her father who refused the idea that Rosalind could studies something to do with science.

Afterward getting the degree she worked in Juan Randall laboratory in Cambridge that was the perfect opportunity for Rosalind to put all her knowledge in the biology, here is where she met with Wilkins who was the first person in recognize the nucleic acid in the molecule. Basically Wilkins felt that Rosalind was his rival.

Rosalind with the help of X rays could saw the DNA in the molecule (photo  51), this was a huge contribution for the science.

Wilkins took the picture and he shown it to Watson and Crick, these three persons stole Rosalind’s work, and unfortunately they received the nobel prize instead of Rosalind. After her death Wilkins recognized that he stole the picture and he gave the achievement to Rosalind’s work, but it was too late, not because she never heard his apology, the Nobel prize can’t be given to a dead person or more than three persons.  

Rosalind died with only 37 years old, product of an ovarian cancer, maybe all the radiation triggered her illness.

I like Rosalind Franklin because although all the adversities she got in her life (the opposition of her father in her career) and the sexism’s problem in those years, Rosalind with all her capacities made an amazing project and discovery, see the DNA structure perfectly how we know it now because of all her work!

Okay, this might be my favorite Blog of my English class, I have a really close relationship with videogames since I was a child I used to see my grandfather playing videogames such as TOMB RAIDER, ResidenT Evil and casual games.

I remember that in our home we used to have NES 64 and Playstation X, the last one was broken by me when I was 6 years old, my grandpa was so angry!! But now we can remember that time and just laugh.

My favorite videogames are Tomb Raider, GTA saga, Assassins Creed and Just Dance, I’m a casual player, but now with university I don’t have much time :c it’s pretty sad for me because I see my Playstation 3 and my desktop and well I have priorities now, so not time for playing..

My favorite videogames effects are from Square Enix this company makes Final Fantasy, and the animation is just amazing!

This is one of my favorites pictures, here I am with my best friends (6 years of friendship! Amazing!) Valentina and Tamara. This one was taken at my father’s apartment after we went to Super Japan EXPO last year on October 13th. I remember that we were really excited for going to that event but we got bored after two hours, that was disappointing for us, then we decided to go to Insert Coin bar- it’s like eating fast food, have some drinks, while you play a videogame! Is really cool- we enjoyed a lot!! It was our first time at the Insert Coin and it was perfect :).

Then we walked from that bar to my house talking about our stories and things like that, we were really tired and my dad bought sushi for us.

This photography is really special for me, ‘cause although we are really close friends we don’t have many pictures together, anyway this day was incredible, and it will always be in my memory and heart! 

We ate this at Insert Coin bar, bye diet!

Music

I think that music is a really important piece of my life, I enjoy it so much! my style is not defined at all, I can perfectly listen to music of 1950’s –like Elvis Presley- and current music too, I always thought that I’m a little dramatic with music, because I have a song for every moment of my life, it’s like the complement of a movie haha, it’s funny in some weirdly way I thought that my life is like a movie.

Although my favorite music style is not defined, most of the music I listen to is Indie rock, I really like groups like Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, Blur, Death cab for a cutie, and The Strokes.

Without music life would be so boring. I’d like to say: thanks musicians for give us all your talent!!!! 

Technology in mi life :)

Technology in my life

Since I was born technology always was present in my life in different ways like TV, computer, telephone, etc. So chose only one of all technological pieces it’s complicate, I’m going to choose two pieces of technology, laptop and smartphone.

I got my first laptop at 2008 in that time MSN –that sound so old-was popular and my laptop had a camera on the front so the video calls formed part of my time on those days, that was so funny I remember that I could pass hours talking with my friends! Maybe I can say that I was a laptop addict, now the use of a laptop hasn’t change so much, too many things still being the same, but now laptops are faster than those days –thanks intel core-.

My second favorite piece of technology is my smartphone it’s weird the fact that I’m saying this because two years ago I hated smartphones and I must say, when I was 17 years old I tried to not use a smartphone, well in two weeks I noticed what important a smartphone is in our life.

I got my actual smartphone at 2013 I like it because I can do many things in it, take pictures, listening to music, read books, talk all the time with my friends, in simpler words I can do the same things that I do in a laptop, that’s perfect for me.

I think that life in this days make us dependence of technology, so we must move on with it and if we know use it in a good form technology in general could help us to make our life simpler, the information is literally in everything now, so why not use it? 

Why Chemistry?

Why I decided to study Chemistry?

I chose chemistry ‘cause since I was child I loved the science, I always wanted to be in all the science fair that my school did. Also I won too many awards for that I got really interested in science.

On March 2013 I went to a science camp, called Chile Va! From CONICYT I knew too many scientists and I just get in love with their works! I remember enjoying every time that I passed in that place (it took place on Hacienda Picarquín), it was a really good experience.

When I was in 4th grade, I didn´t know what study, I knew that science was implicated but not at all, so I take a year and I did a preuniversitario then I was sure it will be Biochemistry or Chemistry so I postulated in Universidad de Chile in booth careers but I was selected only on Chemistry, anyway was one of my principal options and here I am, very happy about that.

Carla Andrea Albornoz Fredes, born on February 15th 1997. I studied primary education in Principe de Gales school, and then I finished my secondary education in María Luisa Villalón high school, currently I'm studying chemistry at Universidad de Chile.

I´m the oldest of two sisters, Monserrat (5 years old) and María Fernanda (2 months old) both of them are from my father's part. I live only with my mother Mónica in Cerrillos.

I really like to play piano and guitar in my free times! They’re my favorite hobbies, and sometimes I play on my playstation because it is a really good distraction with all the work that I have to do from university.

I have two best friends Valentina and Tamara always have a date with this girls is have so much fun and spend a really good time with laughs and new adventures!.
